Charles Leonard Gehringer was a Major League Baseball player who spent his entire 19-year Hall of Fame career with the Detroit Tigers (1924-1942). Charlie, his nickname finished his career with seven 200-hit seasons (1929, 1930, 1933 , 1934, 1935, 1936, 1937) second most in Detroit Tigers history, behind only Ty Cobb (9x)!

Did you know that Charlie Gehringer had less than twenty-strikeouts in four (1929, 1930, 1935, 1936) of his seven two-hundred hit seasons, the most instances in American League history, tied with Nap Lajoie and Sam Rice? The Mechanical Man is the only Tiger with more than one such season, well ahead of Ty Cobb (1924), Harry Heilmann (1927), George Kell (1950) and Harvey Kuenn (1927), who each did it one time in Detroit.

The Baseball Writers Association of America (85% of them) finally selected Charlie Gehringer for induction into the Hall of Fame in 1949. His plaque (seen above), includes the following, "HAD a .500 AVERAGE FOR SIX ALL-STAR GAMES" but, it doesn't mention that he started and played every single inning of the first six Midsummer Classics in a row!
