"He (Del Baker) surprised everyone by picking 31-year-old Floyd Giebell who was brought up earlier, and had been in only one game that season. It was obvious Baker was giving the first game to (Bob) Feller, and hope to win one of the next two. Giebell was just a 'sacrificial lamb.' Tiger first baseman Rudy York smacked a two-run homer while the cool and calm 'lamb' threw a 2-0 shutout sending his team into the World Series against Cincinnati.
