Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"When the pitcher gets ready to go, I get ready to go. I'm just going out there with a clear head. There's no, 'Hey, do this, take a strike, hit the ball here, this is what you need to do.' All I'm trying to do is have a good at-bat, and I think it's showing up more and more... When everybody says you can't do it, and you start doing it, it feels good." - Goins, Ryan. How Toronto Blue Jays batting coach Brook Jacoby helped transform Ryan Goins into a productive hitter. Lott, John. National Post Staff Writer. 3 September 2015.

The eight-game streak (August 23 - August 31) included twelve total hits, four multi-hit games, and tied the Blue Jays record for longest hit streak by a rookie at the start of the major league career, set originally in 1981. Do you know who Ryan tied? [Answer]

On September 10, 1977, Roy Howell became the first player in Blue Jays history to collect five hits in a game. On May 24, 2017, Ryan Goins hit the fifteenth home run of his career, the first grand slam. Later that same year, on September 22nd, Ryan hit his second career grand slam, becoming the first shortstop in Blue Jays history to hit more than one grand slam during the same season!

Ryan Goins announced that he was retiring from professional baseball on October 9, 2023. His tweet: "As an athlete you never think it's coming and then one day it's staring you right in the face! As a lot of people know I spent this last year coaching but never officially announced that I was done playing the game that I've loved since I was a little boy with a dream. I was able to do some special things in my 14 years and developed relationships that will last a lifetime. I want to say thank you to the Toronto Blue Jays for taking a chance on me and giving me my first shot. Also to the Kansas City Royals, Chicago White Sox, and Atlanta Braves for bringing me in and allowing me the opportunity to live out my dreams. To all of my teammates along the way, and the friendships I leave the game with, I say thank you! Lastly to my family, who was there with me every stop of the way and had my back no matter what, your support meant the world to me and I hope I made you guys proud every stop of the way. So this is my official goodbye to playing the game, and my hello tot he next chapter of my journey as a coach."
