"When you come up to a team and see people like Joe Morgan, Johnny Bench, Tony Perez, Pete Rose, you have to be a little awed. You ask yourself, 'what am I doing here? But I remember what my brother Bill used to say all the time, 'Kenny, when you walk out there do your thing, remember you're as good as anybody else' and I've always felt that way." - Griffey, Ken. Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame. Class of 2004.

Did you know that Griffey, and his son Ken Griffey, Jr., played together on both the 1990 Seattle Mariners and 1991 Seattle Mariners? When they appeared together in a game on August 31, 1990, they became the first father-son combo to appear in a Major League game at the same time and ESPN Classic described that moment with:
Griffey Sr. and Jr. first to play together in MLB
Signed two days ago by the Seattle Mariners after being released by the Cincinnati Reds, 40-year-old Ken Griffey Sr. is about to make history tonight with his 20-year-old son. They are the first father-and-son tandem to play in a major-league game. Earlier in the day, Griffey, Jr. tells family agent Brian Goldberg, "It's really going to be weird tonight, playing with my dad." Later that afternoon, Griffey Sr. tells Goldberg, "It's going to be weird tonight, playing with my son."
As the Griffey's trot to their positions, center-fielder Jr. gives his dad, in left, a quick wave. In the bottom of the first inning, Sr., batting second, singles, the 2,091st hit in his 18-year career. Jr. follows with a single (No. 275). Both score in the Mariners' 5-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals.
"I wanted to cry or something," Jr. says after going 1-for-4, same as dad. "It just seemed like a father-son game, like we were out playing catch in the backyard. But we were actually playing a real game.
"The weird thing was all the guys are yelling, 'Let's go, Ken,' and I'm yelling, 'Let's go, Dad.'"

Ken Griffey hit his one-hundred fifty-first career home run on September 14, 1990. His son (Ken Griffey, Jr.), in that same exact game, hit his thirty-sixth career home run and they became the first father and son to hit home runs in the same game on that date in baseball history. The pitcher for both home runs was Kirk McCaskill, the first & only pitcher in Major League history to allow two home runs in the same game to a father and son.
The Cincinnati Reds elected Ken Griffey to the Reds Hall of Fame in 2004. During his two stints with the Reds, Griffey played in 1,224 games, had a .303 batting average, hit 71 home runs, drove in 466 runs, walked 455 times, scorched 63 triples, stole 156 bases and remains the only player in Reds history to play for three Reds World Champion teams (1975, 1976, 1990).
