Hall of Famer Wee Willie Keeler "hit 'em where they ain't" and set a Dodgers franchise record for hits in a season (216) in 1899, their first player with a 200-hit season. In 1929, Babe Herman broke Keeler's record when he finished with year with 217 hits, but The Babe wasn't finished, and a year later The Pride of Flatbush shattered his own record, hitting a still-standing franchise record 241 hits in 1930! The closest any Dodger has ever come to the mark was 230 hits, in 1960. Do you remember who it was? [Answer]

Did you know his nickname had nothing to do with Babe Ruth? Herman explained, "The story (is) that I was called Babe because when I came up to the Big Leagues with Brooklyn, I was supposed to have said that I was going to hit like Babe Ruth. As with so many stories that sound good, it's just not so. The fact is I got the nickname Babe way back when I was playing with Edmonton in the Western Canada League. There was a popular champion flyweight prize fighter at the time named Babe Herman and a fog horn lady fan at Edmonton started calling me Babe after Babe Herman the fighter, not after Babe Ruth. She'd yell 'Go get em Babe' or 'Get a hit, Babe' so loud you could hear her all over the ball park, and somehow the name stuck." [Source = The Glory of Their Times: The Story of the Early Days of Baseball Told by the Men Who Played It. 6 April 2010. Page 214.]

Did you know that when Babe Herman homered on July 10, 1935, during the seventh inning, off Dutch Leonard, in Crosley Field, it was the first home run hit during a regular season game played at night? [Famous First Home Run Records]

Herman the Great hit for the cycle on May 18, 1931. Herman the Great hit for the cycle on July 24, 1931. This pair of cycles made Herman the Great the first National League player to collect two cycles in the same season! However, he was not done making history; when Herman the Great hit for the cycle on September 30, 1933, he became the first player to hit for the cycle in three different National League games!
