"It's just really neat, there's a lot of people I hadn't heard from in a long time, and a lot of people I wanted to hear from, maybe didn't have their number, stuff like that. But somehow they got in touch with me and were able to be a part of it. It was just fun to be able to share it with some people that had impacted my life and my career to this point." - Philip Humber on MLB.com (Josh Liebeskind, 04/22/2012, 'Humber still trying to process perfection', Source) |

Did you know that in Philip Humber's thirtieth career start in the big leagues, on April 21, 2012, Humber pitched the twenty-first perfect game in Major League history? It was the third perfect game in Chicago White Sox history -- after those thrown by Charlie Robertson and Mark Buehrle -- and the eighteenth no-hitter in White Sox history.
The Rice University single-game record for strikeouts is 17, set by Philip Humber on March 20, 2004. Humber also pitched a complete game in the decisive third game of the 2003 College World Series, a 14-2 win over Stanford University (it was the first National Championship in any team sport for Rice). Humber was honored with 'Philip Humber Day' in his hometown of Carthage.
Philip Humber Pitching Mechanics: Humber primarly relies on five pitches. He has a four-seam fastball ranging from 89 to 92 miles per hour, a two-seam fastball (89 to 92 miles per hour), a slider (mid 80s), a changeup (mid 80s), and a curveball (78 to 81 miles per hour). He uses his slider against right-handed hitters but prefers to use his changeup and curveball as off-speed pitches against left-handed hitters. Humber favors his curveball in two-strike situations and uses a conventional "three-quarters" arm slot to deliver his pitches.
