Fergie Jenkins was born on Sunday, December 13, 1942, in Chatham, Ontario, Canada. Jenkins was 22 years old when he broke into the big leagues on September 10, 1965, with the Philadelphia Phillies. His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive Fergie Jenkins baseball stats page.
"If the name Ferguson (Fergie) Jenkins were water and placed in a pot over a flaming burner, it would come to a slow boil. It has been hard for the rangy, 6-foot, 5-inch Chicago Cubs pitcher from Chatham, Ontario, to bubble over in the minds of even the most avid sports fan even though he has achieved a monumental feat in posting his sixth straight 20-win season. Crowded out by the Bob Gibsons, Juan Marichals, Tom Seavers and others, the name Jenkins just has not stood a chance. But the Cubs' artisan of the mound now unequivocally says, 'I think that Ferguson Jenkins belongs in a class all by himself.' Although he once said the the San Francisco Giants' Marichal was the pitcher who came closest to becoming his idol, Jenkins firmly instructs, 'I no longer want to be categorized along with Bob Gibson, Tome Seaver and Juan Marichal.' It is not that Jenkins does not think any of these pitchers are classy, but he thinks his record bears evidence that he has surpassed their feats. He would rather be linked to former greats such as Robin Roberts, who once pitched for the Cubs, and was the last mound man to win 20 games six straight years." - Jenkins Hurls Way Into Greatness With 6th 20-Game Year. Jet Magazine. 5 October 1972. Page 50.

Fergie Jenkins Stats by Baseball Almanac |
Ferguson Arthur Jenkins was a Major League Baseball player with the Philadelphia Phillies (1965–1966), Chicago Cubs (1966–1973), Texas Rangers (1974–1975), Boston Red Sox (1976–1977), Texas Rangers (1978–1981), and Chicago Cubs (1982–1983). Eight years after he hung up his pitching cleats, Fergie, his nickname, was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame — the first Canadian-born player sent to Cooperstown. Do you know who the second Hall of Fame player from Canada is? [Answer]
Fergie Jenkins | National Baseball Hall of Fame Plaque | Class of 1991 (HOF)
Did you know that Fergie Jenkins won 20-or-more games six consecutive seasons (1967-1972)? That same incredibly rare pitching feat had happened in Chicago, Clark Griffith (1894-1899) and Mordecai Brown (1906-1911), but no pitcher in Cubs history has ever surpassed this team record.
Did you know that the last three pitchers in baseball history to complete thirty-games in a season, all took the mound during the 1970s? They were Catfish Hunter (30 complete games in 1975), Steve Carlton (30 complete games in 1972), and Fergie Jenkins (30 complete games in 1971).
Fergie Jenkins was the first pitcher in Major League history to finish his career with at least 3,000 strikeouts, and fewer than 1,000 bases on balls! Retired twirlers who have joined the "club" since Jenkins; Curt Schilling in 2007, Greg Maddux in 2008, and Pedro Martinez in 2009.
