Chipper Jones was born on Monday, April 24, 1972, in DeLand, Florida. Jones was 21 years old when he broke into the big leagues on September 11, 1993, with the Atlanta Braves. His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive Chipper Jones baseball stats page.
"The first time Braves manager Bobby Cox saw (Chipper) Jones, he knew he was going to be a star. 'That face,' Cox said. 'He has that face.' It is the face of a baseball lifer, a guy who was born to play the game. A baseball lifer doesn't necessarily mean playing until you're 45, then managing or coaching the rest of your life. It also means playing the game properly, doing what you're told, doing what's best for the team, adjusting constantly and, of course, winning." - ESPN Columnist Tim Kurkjian in ESPN: The Magazine (August 3, 2005)

Chipper Jones Stats by Baseball Almanac |
Larry Wayne Jones was a Major League Baseball player with the Atlanta Braves (1993, 1995-2012). Chipper, his nickname was the number one pick overall in the 1990 baseball draft! Did you know that only three switch hitters in Major League history have hit more than 400 home runs; Chipper Jones, Mickey Mantle and Eddie Murray — and of those three extraordinary sluggers, only Chipper has a career batting average greater than .300?

Chipper Jones wore #16 when he made his Major League debut with the 1993 Atlanta Braves because Greg Olson had been wearing #10 with the Braves since 1990. When Chipper came back up to the show in 1993, he started wearing #10 and no Brave will wear it again. On June 28, 2013, the Braves retired #10 in his honor and inducted Chipper into the Braves Hall of Fame. Join Baseball Almanac as we take a look at more Chipper Jones number of interest:
