Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"WALLY JOYNER: Wally World was a wondrous place to be back in 1986 and '87. Wally Joyner made such a spectacular entrance at first base for the Angels that people almost forgot the man he replaced was Rod Carew. A smooth defensive player with a textbook left-handed swing, Joyner hit 56 home runs and drove in 217 runs in his first two incendiary years in Orange County, a start that inspired then Orange County Register baseball writer Peter Schmuck to rename Anaheim Stadium Wally World." - Bisheff, Steve. Wally Joyner "admits to having been disappointed when he was passed over for Rookie of the Year honors" and said, "Overall, it was a storybook year for Wally Joyner. I started out exceeding all expectations, even my own. I think I will remember the people I played with most of all. Reggie Jackson, who I admired growing up, became a really good friend of mine. He's the kind of guy you love or you hate. His personality conflicts with a lot of people, but we just meshed. And Bobby Grich paid me the greatest compliment. He said he wished he was 20 years younger so we could play together on the right side of the infield for a decade." Source: Tuber, Keith. Orange Coast Magazine Staff Writer.
