Skip Jutze was called-up in September 1972, by the St. Louis Cardinals, and proceeded to catch seven complete games in seven straight days (Skip Jutze 1972 Game by Game Logs). Proving he had what it takes, the Cards traded Skip after the season with Milt Ramirez to the Houston Astros for Ray Busse and Bobby Fenwick. Jutze caught 182 games in Houston over the next 4 years, sharing catching duties with their veteran / former All-Star backstop Johnny Edwards.

The 1977 baseball expansion resulted in the establishment of Major League Baseball teams in Seattle (Washington) and Toronto (Ontario, Canada) - paving the way for two new American League teams, the Seattle Mariners and the Toronto Blue Jays:

When Skip Jutze took the field in the Kingdome on April 12, 1977, he became the first Seattle Mariner to ever wear #3 in a regular season game. Sixteen years later, a nineteen-year-old shortstop made his debut in Seattle wearing that same number, clubbing more than 500 home runs in his career, do you know who it was? [Answer]

When Skip Jutze took the field in the Kingdome on May 17, 1977, he had never hit a grand slam. He hadn't even hit a single home run in St. Louis, or Houston! But in the bottom of the third inning, Jutze stepped to the plate in a bases loaded situation. Orioles starter Rudy May was struggling so Baltimore replaced him with Dyar Miller. Skip proceeded to etch his name in the Baseball Almanac, hitting the first grand slam by a Seattle Mariner.
