"It was awesome. It was seriously one of the coolest things I've seen. I felt like a little kid. I was jumping up and down, screaming at the top of my lungs. It had no effect on him (Ian Kinsler) running the bases, but I felt like I was a part of it. It's one of those things you don't see very often. To hit the cycle and go 6-for-6. Six hits is a good week for some guys. At the same time, I'm not surprised because Kins is one of the best hitters I've seen. That's unbelievable." - Teammate Chris Davis in The Dallas Morning News (Richard Durrett, 04/16/2009)

Ian Kinsler Stats by Baseball Almanac |
Did you know that Ian Kinsler was the first player in Texas Rangers history to join the 30 / 30 Club (30 Home Runs and 30 Stolen Bases in 1 Season) twice?
In 1978, Bobby Bonds split time with the Chicago White Sox and Texas Rangers, ending the season with 31 home runs and 43 stolen bases - the first player to wear a Rangers uniform and join the 30 / 30 Club. In 2005, Alfonso Soriano hit thirty-six home runs and stole thirty bases, spending the whole season with Texas. Soriano and Bonds had each joined the 30 / 30 Club prior to those years, but neither was with Texas at the time. Kinsler, however, first joined the 30 / 30 Club in 2009 (31 HRs / 31 SBs) and then joined it again in 2011 (32 HRs / 30 SBs), both times as a Ranger.
On April 15, 2009, Ian Kinsler hit for the cycle, joining fellow Texas Rangers cycle hitters Oddibe McDowell (July 23, 1985), Mark Teixeira (August 17, 2004) and Gary Mathews, Jr. (September 13, 2006). Kinsler, however, also went 6-for-6 in the game, the first player in team history to have Six Hits in a Nine-Inning Game! [Note: Alfonso Soriano did go 6-for-6 on May 8, 2004, but it was an extra-inning game.]
The last player, before Kinsler, to go 6-for-6 and complete a cycle in the same game? Farmer Weaver, on August 12, 1890, one-hundred nineteen years earlier!
Billy Hamilton was the first player in baseball history to hit a Lead-Off AND Walk Off Home Run in Same Game by Same Player, accomplishing the feat on May 17, 1893. Since Sliding Billy, only a tiny handful of players have joined the "Lead-Off / Walk-Off In The Same Game Club" — one of them was Ian Kinsler, on July 19, 2009!
Ian Kinsler is the first player in Major League history to hit lead-off home runs in his team's first two games of the season! On April 1, 2011, Kinsler hit a 1-0 pitch from Jon Lester deep down the left field line for a "routine" Opening Day lead-off homer. On April 2, 2011, Kinsler made history when he hit a 3-1 pitch from John Lackey out for his second consecutive lead-off home run to start the 2011 season- Mr. Ian "Lead-Off Home Run History" Kinsler.
Ian Kinsler was traded by the Texas Rangers to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for Prince Fielder and cash, on November 20, 2013. His impact in Motor City was significant and even though he only spent four years on their team, he was named (by MLB / Jason Beck / 12/20/2019) as one of the Top 10 Tigers of The Decade:
4. Ian Kinsler: The fact that Kinsler arrived as the Tigers’ window of contention was closing hides just how good he was in a Detroit uniform, worth 20.0 bWAR over just four seasons. Already good when he joined Detroit in the Prince Fielder trade, Kinsler emerged as a catalyst atop the Tigers' batting order and a defensive anchor up the middle, winning his first Gold Glove Award and arguably deserving at least one more. He became a leader in the clubhouse with his hard-nosed play and his no-nonsense attitude. Fittingly, he spent his last game in a Tigers uniform as a manager, chosen by then-skipper Brad Ausmus to call the shots for the 2017 season finale.
Ian Kinsler retired from baseball on December 20, 2019 (video below), due in part to a herniated cervical disk injury he sustained in 2019. Kins said, "To be honest, it was a factor in my decision. My pride wouldn’t let me go halfway at something that I’ve been doing at 100 percent for my whole baseball life."
Ian Kinsler left the field in style, homering in his final big league at-bat, a rare feat we researched on Baseball Almanac.
