Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"If you can run your fastball in on their hands, the pitch can look real good to them at first before it's suddenly too far to get the bat on. But I don't just pitch that way to power hitters. I go at every hitter I face that way. You've got to establish yourself. It doesn't matter who's hitting. If they're crowding the plate, you need to back them away. I would never, ever condone throwing at a batter but you need to put the pitch in a spot where the batter is forced to forget swinging so that he can get out of the way. Pitching inside means going in close enough to mess up their swing but also making the pitch good enough that it looks like a strike." - Bob Cunningham in Baseball Digest (Aug. 1994, 'Bust 'em Inside, A Big Key to Successful Pitching', Page 21)

Did you know that Mark Langston, on April 11, 1990, hurled the eighth no-hitter in Angels franchise history? Langston pitched the first seven innings, Mike Witt the last two innings, and the combined no-hitter was the first - and through today, only multi-picher no-no - in team history.

In 1987, Mark Langston won his first Gold Glove, the first Seattle Mariners pitcher to receive the honor. In 1991, Mark Langston won his third Gold Glove, the first California Angels pitcher to receive the honor!

Langston finished his impressive career with two Gold Gloves in Seattle (the most by any pitcher in team history), five Gold Gloves in California (the most by any pitcher in team history), and seven total, second most at the time of his retirement in the American League (AL). Do you know what one AL twirler had won more? [Answer]
