"In Cincinnati, the Expos faced the Reds' new sensation, Brad Lesly. His antics after getting a strikeout didn't earn him many accolades among his opponents - he would yell and show some exuberance like wrestler Hulk Hogan - but he was getting lots of publicity and became very popular in Cincinnati, whose fans badly needed some entertainment as the Reds, after more than a decade of excellence, were mired deep in last place in the NL West. Lesley had been called up from the minors in late July and when he faced the Expos his ERA was around 1.00. But his passage to the majors would be very brief, as he couldn't sustain that level of excellence very long." - Author Alain Usereau in The Expos in Their Prime: The Short-Lived Glory of Montreal's Team, 1977-1984 (McFarland Publishers, 12/17/2012, Page 170) |
