"It was when he hit forty-nine doubles. Whenever anyone brings up Jed, I remember that year (2017). Just being able to see that, it was impressive. A guy that's been great for the younger guys here being able to mentor them, whether it's the pitching side of things or the hitting side of things. He's had an unbelievable career and I'm thankful I got to play with him." - Blackburn, Paul. Lowrie's time with A's arrives at emotional end. Gallegos, Martin. MLB Staff Writer. 10 August 2022.

The first regular season home game in Citi Field was played on April 13, 2009. The New York Mets lost 5-6 to the visiting San Diego Padres. Why mention this here? During an exhibition game on April 4, 2009, Jed Lowrie crushed a bases-loaded Oliver Pérez fastball more than 400 feet, over the left-center field wall, the first home run by a major leaguer in Citi Field history!
The last game of the regular season was played on Sunday, October 4, 2009, at Fenway Park. During that 12-7 Red Sox victory over the visiting Cleveland Indians, Jed Lowrie hit his first career grand slam — this time it counted!
The first walk-off home run of Jed Lowrie's career was hit in the bottom of the eleventh inning, on August 21, 2010. Noteworthy because it was also the only walk-off home run hit during the entire regular season by any player on the 2010 Red Sox!
The first defensive triple play of Jed Lowrie's career took place on August 16, 2011, a 5-4-3 gem, and the first started by a Red Sox third baseman since Joe Foy initiated one on July 15, 1967.
The career high home run total (16) in 2012, was after Jed Lowrie had been traded to the Houston Astros, and the second most dingers during a single season by a shortstop in franchise history (at the time), four shy of the twenty hit by Dickie Thon (1983).
The forty-five doubles hit by Jed Lowrie in 2013, set an Oakland franchise record for doubles in a season by a switch hitter. His hit total (175) were the most in a season by a switch-hitter since the team moved from Philadelphia to Oakland.
The six homers Jed Lowrie hit in 2014, all occurred when the bases were empty, the most in Oakland since Jeremy Giambi hit eight-of-eight bases empty blasts in 2002!
The doubles record Jed Lowrie set in 2013, was broken in 2017 — by Jed Lowrie (49 doubles), who not only surpassed the mark set by switch-hitters, but surpassed the all-time single-season mark in Oakland, held previously by Jason Giambi (47 doubles in 2011). The 49 doubles were second in franchise history, behind Hall of Famer Al Simmons, who had 53 doubles in 1926.
The four errors Jed Lowrie committed at second base in 2018, lowered his fielding percentage to .993, which was still the best by an American League second baseman!
Despite dozens of trips to the injured list, Jed Lowrie had terrific fourteen year career in the majors. Mark Kotsay, the manager of the Oakland Athletics, told the media, "What he’s meant to this organization and what he’s done here as an Oakland Athletic, his tenure stands out. He’s been a part of some great clubs and had great moments here."
