"'Tommy was magnificent [box]. I was only worried about the 40-minute delay he had in there,' (Washington Nationals Manager Davey) Johnson said. 'Also, I wasn't going to let the winning run get on [in the sixth inning]. Unfortunately, we didn't stop his run from scoring, but he was outstanding. It was a wonderful win for him and a fitting end to this road trip. I think he had everything working for him. He had them all messed up. They were talking to themselves. He jammed a lot of guys, who missed by a mile. It was a really fun game to watch. He was totally in command.' A happy Milone received three game balls, a small blue lineup card and a shaving cream pie in the face. 'I'm glad to have [the win] under my belt now,' Milone said. 'Obviously, what you want to do is win games. But what you want to do is keep the team in the ballgame. We got a win out of it.'" - Ladson, Bill. MLB Staff Writer. Milone gets first victory as Nats sweep Mets. 15 September 2011.

Tommy Milone Stats by Baseball Almanac |
Did you know that Tommy Milone is the first player in Washington Nationals (2005-Today) history to hit a home run in his first at-bat? During his debut on September 3, 2011, bottom of the second inning, New York Mets righty Dillon Gee on the mound, runners on second (Jesus Flores) and third base (Chris Marrero), batting ninth in the line-up, Milone crushed the first pitch thrown to him deep down the right field line clearing the outfield wall in his first Major League at-bat.
The Washington Nationals franchise existed first as the Montreal Expos, from 1969 through 2004. During their time in Montreal Expos, Tim Wallach, Dustin Hermanson, Brad Fullmer, and Guillermo Mota each hit a home run in their first at-bat, but only Milone hit the home run not in just his first at-bat, but the first pitch ever thrown to him.

Tommy Milone was the third player in 2011, from the University of Southern California, to break into the big leagues, joining Ryan Cook (July 20, 2011) and Anthony Vasquez (August 23, 2011). Milone's official biography on their site (Link) has a detailed year-by-year analysis of his pitching records / feats at USC and the following career summary, "Tommy Milone finished his Trojan career with 45 starts, placing him ninth on USC's all-time list in a tie with Sid Akins (1982-84)...Milone went 16-17 with a 4.78 ERA...allowed only 60 walks in 273.0 career innings...selected in the 10th round of the 2008 major league baseball draft by the Washington Nationals."
The University of Southern California has had more players from their baseball program make it to the show than any college in history (College Teams by Quantity) - and is one of only three (University of Texas at Austin & Arizona State University) with more than 100+ big league alumni.
In 2011, Tommy Milone had a 1.000 fielding percentage, committing no errors in five total chances. Proving it wasn't an accident, in 2014, Milone had a 1.000 fielding percentage with the Oakland Athletics, committing no errors in fifteen total chances.
