Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"You'd thought that Atlanta Braves pitcher Carl Morton would have dreamed of becoming a right-handed Sandy Koufax. You'd have thought wrong. 'I always wanted to be another Hank Aaron,' the golden-haired Morton confessed. 'I always thought of myself as a hitter, not a pitcher. I never dreamed my baseball career would take the turn it did.' Carl Morton was signed as an outfielder by the Braves in 1965 and spent two seasons in that position in the Braves' farm system before it was decided to convert the 190-pound 6-footer into a pitcher. 'I really couldn't argue the point,' said Morton, 'Despite my plans to become a great hitter, I hardly hit my weight those two years (.239 and .227). My father, who was a pretty good pitcher in his school days, had me doing a lot of pitching when I was small and I kept it up right through school.'" - The Panama City News-Herald.
