George Myatt Stats

George Myatt was born on Sunday, June 14, 1914, in Denver, Colorado. Myatt was 24 years old when he broke into the big leagues on August 16, 1938, with the New York Giants. His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive George Myatt baseball stats page.

"After President Truman threw out the first ball at Griffith Stadium for the game against the Boston Red Sox, the spirited infielder was bursting with anticipation. To the roar of the crowd, (George) Myatt led his teammates up the steps of the dugout. But Myatt was so excited that he didn't watch where he was going and tripped over his own feet. At his teammates watched in shock, he sprawled backward down the steps, fracturing a bone in his ankle." - Bruce Nash in The Baseball Hall of Shame: The Best of Blooperstown (Lyons Press Publishing, 03/06/2012, 'GEORGE MYATT Third Baseman - Washington, AL - April 16, 1946, Page 31)

Did you know that in 1936, Boston Red Sox General Manager Eddie Collins traveled to San Diego to scout George Myatt in a Pacific Coast League game, but came away more impressed with his 17-year-old teammate, a San Diegan and a recent Hoover High School graduate named Ted Williams? So Collins passed on Myatt and acquired The Splendid Splinter; however, Myatt still made it to show where he played seven seasons, had thirteen seasons in the minors and spent more than twenty years coaching the Senators, White Sox, Cubs, Braves Tigers and Phillies.
