Darrell Osteen - as seen by the quote at the top of the page - was well known for his interest in women and once actually talked a woman out of becoming a Carmelite nun, married her and fathered a son! They soon split. It was his second marriage. Columnist Ron Coons learned of this story during an interview with Osteen and was also given the following quote:

"In 1966, I supposedly had the Reds' club made. . . But a week before breaking camp, I was unfortunate enough to have been photographed in a lounge looking up into the eyes of a young lady who was serving a drink. It was after curfew. One of the weekly magazines got hold of it, and I was the centerfold picture.

"This picture was posted on the bulletin board and in front of my locker. At that time Don Heffner was the manager. He called me into his office and told me I was being sent to Buffalo. He told me I needed to learn to take care of myself off the field."
