"I was able to celebrate the closing of the stadium with my 23rd and final home run of the season, a solo shot off Antonelli in the second inning, but it was not the last homer hit in the Giants-era of the Polo Grounds. That honor went to my teammate, Johnny Powers, who hit a ball into the rightfield stands with two out in the 9th inning." - Frank Thomas in 'Kiss it Goodbye! The Frank Thomas Story' (Frank Thomas, 2005)

Did you know that Johnny Powers hit the final home run during the New York Giants era at the Polo Grounds? On September 29, 1957, in their final game before moving to San Francisco, Powers — playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates, who spoiled the Giants dreams of winning their final franchise game at home — went deep in the ninth inning at the Polo Grounds versus Giants hurler Ramon Monzant. Though more homers were hit by the New York Mets when they moved into the Polo Grounds on April 13, 1962, this was the final long ball hit against the New York Giants.
