"(Guillermo) Quiroz had been having trouble catching his breath, but after two trips to the doctor, the breathing difficulties were diagnosed as a chest cold. He continued to play, and hit, going 5-for-12 with a home run and two doubles in a four game stretch against Binghamton and New Britain. But after going 2-for-3 against the Rock Cats with a home run and a double, he was still having trouble catching his breath. New Haven trainer Jeff Stay took Quiroz to another doctor. Stay insisted that the doctor take a chest X-ray, which discovered that Quiroz, hitting .282-20-79, had a partially collapsed lung." - Sportswriter J.J. Cooper in Baseball America (08/29/2003) |
