Did you know that Edgar Renteria is one of just four baseball players (Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio and Yogi Berra are the other three) in Major League history who have notched game-winning hits in two World Series-clinching games?

Edgar Renteria spent sixteen years player Major League Baseball for six different big league teams, appeared in three World Series with three different teams, and five All-Star Games with three different teams as well. A few highlights for the Barranquilla Baby:

Edgar Renteria finished second to Todd Hollandsworth in Rookie of the Year Award balloting in 1996. Those who received votes: Todd Hollandsworth (105 points), Renteria (84 points), Jason Kendall (30 points), F.P. Santangelo (15 points), Rey Ordonez (7 points), Jermaine Dye (6 points) and Alan Benes (5 points).

In 1997, his RBI single off Charles Nagy in the eleventh inning of Game 7 of the 1997 World Series won the first World Series in Marlins' history. Prior to the Fall Classic, Renteria collected a career high 19 sacrifice hits, leading the National League, and establishing a single season Marlins record that has never been broken since!

He was selected to his first All-Star Game in 1998, and he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals following the season. He was the starting shortstop for the Cardinals for six years, and he was selected to the All-Star Game in 2000, 2003, and 2004.

In 2002 and 2003, Edgar Renteria won both the Silver Slugger Award and Gold Glove Awards in each of those two seasons - the only Cardinals player to win both awards at their respective position during the same season more than once.

In the 2010 World Series, Renteria won the World Series Most Valuable Player Award after he hit game-winning home runs in Game 2 and Game 5.

"He's a pro's pro and a beautiful person," General Manager Brian Sabean said in a post game press conference. "He deserves it." The "it" being referred to was the 2010 World Series Most Valuable Player Award which made Renteria the fifth shortstop (at that point) in Fall Classic history to win the prestigious award (1978 World Series, Bucky Dent; 1984 World Series, Alan Trammell; 2000 World Series, Derek Jeter; 2006 World Series, David Eckstein).
