Alex Rodriguez was born on Sunday, July 27, 1975, in New York, New York. Rodriguez was 18 years old when he broke into the big leagues on July 8, 1994, with the Seattle Mariners. His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive Alex Rodriguez baseball stats page.
"Alex (Rodriguez) is going to be among the elite. If he comes even close to the season he had last year, he'll be in his own league. You try to compare him to somebody, but you can't. He is the only one who has done what he has done." - Alan Trammell (November 1999)

Alex Rodriguez Stats by Baseball Almanac |
Alexander Emmanuel Rodriguez was a Major League Baseball player with the Seattle Mariners (1994-2000), Texas Rangers (2001-2003), and New York Yankees (2004-2016). When the Mariners drafted Alex, his nickname, first overall in the 1993 Baseball Draft, he was given a well publicized $1 million signing bonus; however, Seattle also agreed to a three-year (1994, 1995, 1996) major league contract worth $1.3 million, invitations to Spring Training camp each season, a September call-up each of those years, and a paid college education!
1994: Alex Rodriguez made his big league debut on July 8, 1994, when he was eighteen years old, the youngest non-pitcher in Seattle Mariners history. A-Rod, who was exactly 18 years, 11 months, 11 days old, was one month older (18 years, 10 months, 11 days) than what pitcher? [Answer]
1995: Alex Rodriguez hit his first home run on June 12, 1995, when he was nineteen years old, forty-five days shy of his twentieth birthday. In total, A-Rod went deep three times as a teenager, well shy of the Seattle Mariners record (14 HRs) set by what teenager? [Answer]
1996: Alex Rodriguez finished the year setting new single-season Mariners' records for most hits, doubles, runs scored, total bases, and the highest batting average in history! His .358 batting average was the highest in the American League (batting champions) and the highest by a right-handed junior circuit slugger since 1939! Do you remember what Yankee legend hit .381 that year? [Answer]
1997: Alex Rodriguez hit for the cycle on June 5, 1997, the first Seattle Mariner to complete a cycle in a 9-inning game. Do you remember what Mariner completed his cycle in a 14-inning game, four years before A-Rod? [Answer]
1998: Alex Rodriguez finished the year with 42 home runs and 46 stolen bases, the first Mariner to join the 30/30 Club, and 40/40 Club (additional details below). Do you know who the first Mariner was with a 20/20 season? [Answer]
1999: Alex Rodriguez won his third Silver Slugger Award, second consecutive (1996, 1998-1999). Only two American League shortstops in baseball history had ever won back-to-back Silver Sluggers before A-Rod, the first being Cal Ripken, Jr., who won four-in-row (1983-1986), then two more in a row (1993-1994). And, a former Detroit Tiger, in 1987-1988. Who was it? [Answer]
2000: Alex Rodriguez hit three home runs in a game on April 16, 2000, and tied the Mariners' record for runs scored in a game (5) set originally on May 24, 1996, by Ken Griffey, Jr. (who also had a 3-HR game that day). Between those two team-specific record setting games, what Mariner also scored five runs in a game, but "only" went deep twice? [Answer]
2001: Alex Rodriguez continued setting records after leaving Seattle, connecting for an all-time Texas Rangers single season record 52 home runs in 2001. The franchise record (48 HRs) was originally set in 1969, when the Rangers were still the Washington Senators. Who held that record for thirty-two years? [Answer]
Did you know that Jose Canseco (1988), Barry Bonds (1996), Alex Rodriguez (1998) and Alfonso Soriano (2006) are the only four major league ballplayers in the 40/40 Club, connect for at least forty home runs and steal at least forty bases during the same season? When Soriano joined the club his manager, hall of famer Frank Robinson, commented on MLB.com, "It's a very nice accomplishment. There's no doubt about it. The people that hit forty home runs or more don't steal that many bases, even today. It's quite an accomplishment." and his opponent's manager, Ned Yost of the Brewers, commented, "You don't see 40-40 every day, and that's a huge accomplishment."
The Sporting News, on September 24, 2009, announced their Team of the Decade which was composed of Joe Mauer (catcher), Albert Pujols (first base), Jeff Kent (second base), Derek Jeter (shortstop), Alex Rodriguez (third base), Barry Bonds (outfield), Ichiro Suzuki (outfield), Manny Ramirez (outfield), David Ortiz (designated hitter), Randy Johnson (starting pitcher), Mariano Rivera (closer) and Joe Torre (manager).
