Tim Salmon Stats by Baseball Almanac |
Did you know that Tim Salmon, during his first full season (1993), hit thirty-one home runs, ninth most in the American League (Top 25) that season, helping him win the Rookie of the Year Award - the first player in Angels history to receive the honor?
Tim Salmon received 140 votes from the baseball writers, well ahead of every other player who received ROY votes that season: 2. Jason Bere (59 votes), 3. Aaron Sele (19 votes), 4. Wayne Kirby (12 votes), 5. Rich Amaral (8 votes), 6. Brent Gates (7 votes), 7. Troy Neel (5 votes), 8. David Hulse (1 vote), and 8. Jerry DiPoto (1 vote).
Tim Salmon received every possible first place vote, a unanimous Rookie of the Year, only the fourth in American League history (through that date), joining Carlton Fisk (1972), Mark McGwire (1987) and Sandy Alomar, Jr. (1990).
When Tim Salmon hung up his cleats in 2006, he was the Angels franchise leader in bases on balls, home runs, runs scored, strikeouts, and slugging percentage. Through today, he remains the team leader in home runs, strikeouts and walks. He is second overall (behind Garret Anderson in each stat) in games played, at-bats, runs, hits, doubles and RBIs. [MLB.com]
Tim Salmon was inducted into the Angels Hall of Fame in 2015, sharing the stage that day alongside Dean Chance and Mike Witt. Those who came before The King Fish were Bobby Knoop, Don Baylor, Brian Downing, Chuck Finley, Bobby Grich and Rod Carew. Salmon said, "Today, I'm most proud of the fact that I was drafted, signed and played my entire career in one uniform. From the first day that I laced up those black spikes, to the last day I took off that uniform, I've always been proud to be Angel."
Tim Salmon & Mo Vaughn (Angels History) | The Salina Journal | April 22, 2000 | PageB5
On April 21, 2000, Mo Vaughn hit a home run in the second inning off Dwight Gooden. Tim Salmon, the next batter, also went deep off Gooden. In the ninth inning, Vaughn hit a home run off Roberto Hernandez. Salmon, the next better, also went deep off Hernandez. These back-to-back home runs by the same two batters in two different innings were a first in franchise history.
