Did you know that Bob Schmidt and Hank Sauer are the first National League players to hit back-to-back pinch hit home runs in the same game? The duo made pinch hitting history during the tenth inning, on June 4, 1958, in Seals Stadium, with a little help from Milwaukee Braves relief pitcher Ernie Johnson, who actually ended up winning the game despite allowing two home runs in extra innings!

On June 22, 1958, Bob Schmidt was behind the plate in an extra inning game (a doubleheader in Connie Mack Stadium) that lasted 14 innings. The Giants backstop homered, singled, was intentionally walked, and recorded a Major League record twenty-two putouts, the most by any catcher in an extra inning game. [Catcher Putout Records]
