Bill Schroeder was born on Sunday, September 7, 1958, in Baltimore, Maryland. Schroeder was 24 years old when he broke into the big leagues on July 13, 1983, with the Milwaukee Brewers. His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive Bill Schroeder baseball stats page.
"Bill, a free-swinging pull hitter, was an able power backup for rookie B.J. Surhoff in 1987. He was slated to be the Brewers first string catcher in both '85 and '86, but a bum elbow deprived him of the chance. Then along came Surhoff. In '77, Bill as a three-year star at Clemson as the Tigers won the Atlantic Conference title in '78 and '79. He was picked by the Brewers in the eighth round of the June 1979 free agent draft and showed plenty of power in the minors, getting 15 or more homers five straight years. In '82, Bill led the Triple-A Pacific Coast League with 15-game winning RBIs, and in'83, he was named to the P.C.L. All-Star team despite playing a month with the Brewers. Bill led the Brewers in slugging in '84, his first full major league season." - 1988 Score Baseball Card (#311 of 600, Baseball Almanac Collection)

Bill Schroeder Stats by Baseball Almanac |
On April 15, 1987, the Milwaukee Brewers won their ninth consecutive game of the year keeping them with a perfect record (9-0). After the game, Juan Nieves said, "People think this start is a joke, but we are for real and this is just a taste of what is to come." Brew Crew manager Tom Trebelhorn said, "That is the most remarkable game I've ever been associated with."
Bill Schroeder was the catcher during that "remarkable game" and played a significant role giving them "a taste of what is to come" as he called a great game, so great in fact that it ended up being the first no-hitter in the eighteen year history (1970-1987) of the Milwaukee Brewers!
Did you know that Bill Schroeder once the answer to a unique trivia question, "What Major League player finished his career with the most home runs, who had fewer walks than homers?" Rock hung up his cleats with sixty-one home runs, and fifty-eight bases on balls, holding the "record" until 2006, when another catcher hung up his cleats with seventy-one home runs and only sixty-seven walks. Do you know what it was? [Answer]
