On August 7, 1970, Rich Severson "sparkled in the infield" and also whacked his first major league homer. The Kansas City Times included this anecdote, 'I got a little help from the wind,' Severson said. 'I needed it, too. Skip Lockwood threw me two fastballs. The third pitch was high and I made good contact and that's all that matters.' Severson wore a big smile when he facetiously added: 'I only need 713 more to tie Babe Ruth.'
