In 1983, Darryl Strawberry hit twenty-six home runs and collected seventy-four RBI, tops amongst all National League rookies. He swiped nineteen bases, had four two-homer games, and an 11-game hitting streak. When the season ended, the Baseball Writers Association of American voted him (18-of-24 first place votes) the National League Rookie of the Year — the first non-pitcher in Mets history to receive the honor.

In 1984, Darryl Strawberry had 72 hits, 42 RBI, 14 stolen bases, and 11 home runs in the first half of the season, easily getting sent to the 1984 All-Star Game, his first-of-eight consecutive All-Star teams! When the season ended, he led all teammates in home runs (26) and RBI (97).

In 1985, Darryl Strawberry tore a ligament in his right thumb while diving to catch a ball on May 11th. However, Darryl's April stats (12 RBI, 6 HR, 4 SB) still got him sent to the 1985 All-Star Game, making Strawberry the first Met ever sent to back-to-back All-Star Games!

In 1986, Darryl Strawberry, playing in just his fourth season, his his one-hundredth career home run (August 27) and stole his one-hundredth career base (October 5)!

In 1987, Darryl Strawberry hit thirty-nine home runs and stole thirty-six bases, making him one of the few members of the 30 / 30 Club (30-or-more home runs and 30-or-more stolen bases during the same season) in baseball history. That same season, teammate Howard Johnson also joined the 30 / 30 Club, making the 1987 New York Mets the first team in Major League Baseball history with two 30-30 players!

In 1988, Darryl Strawberry led the National League in home runs (39), slugging percentage (.545), on-base plus slugging percentage (.911) and had the highest at-bat per homer ratio (13.9). He had the second highest number of RBI (101) and extra base hits (69). He received 236 points in the Most Valuable Player race, but it was only good enough for second. Who beat him? [Answer]

In 1990, Darryl Strawberry broke the single season New York Mets record for RBI (108), since broken multiple times, but he also became the first player in team history with three 100-RBI seasons (1987, 1988, 1990).

In 1991, Darryl Strawberry hit twenty-eight home runs, the most by lefty Dodger since the team moved from Brooklyn, to Los Angeles. When Strawberry crushed his fifth career grand slam on August 21, 1991, he had 7 RBI — the most in Dodger Stadium by a Dodger.

In 2011, Darryl Strawberry was ranked the single most powerful hitter in New York Mets history by Bleacher Report (The Top 10 Power Hitters in Mets History. Mancari, Jim. Sportswriter. 5 April 2011), who said, "From 1983-1991, Darryl Strawberry was a home run-hitting machine. He hit at least 26 home runs per season during that clip, with his career high in 1987 and 1988 with 39 homers. Like Howard Johnson, Strawberry was the rare combination of speed and power."

Darryl Strawberry, Jose Vizcaino, and Ricky Ledee are the only three players in Major League history to have played for the four current or former New York baseball teams; the New York Mets, the New York Yankees, the (Brooklyn) Dodgers, and the (New York) Giants? Of the three, Darryl Strawberry is the only one to have played his entire career with those four teams.

Darryl Strawberry in The Simpsons

Darryl Strawberry | The Simpsons | Homer at the Bat

The first American League player in history with two pinch hit grand slams in the same season was Darryl Strawberry who accomplished the feat in 1998 (05-02-1998 & 08-04-1998). The first episode of The Simpsons to beat The Cosby Show in ratings during the original airing (February 20, 1992) was "Homer at the Bat", Darryl Strawberry guest starred in that episode playing himself (image above) along with fellow major leaguers Wade Boggs, Jose Canseco, Roger Clemens, Ken Griffey, Jr., Don Mattingly, Steve Sax, Mike Scioscia, and Ozzie Smith.
