Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"After the birth of my second child, I've decided to take a step back and spend the rest of this season full time with my wife and two daughters. Make no mistake, I am not hanging it up. I love this game with the same amount of passion that I had as a rookie 12 years ago." - Swisher, Nick. Swisher opts out of Minor League deal with Yankees. Hoch, Bryan. Mickey Mantle hit a home run batting left-handed, then in the same exact game, hit a home run batting right-handed. The Commerce Comet did that ten times during his Hall of Fame career! Eddie Murray hit a Home Run from Each Side of the Plate in a Game eleven times during his Hall of Fame career. Chipper Jones, during his Hall of Fame career, had eight such games on his resume. No player in Major League history has ever done it more times than Nick Swisher, who has fourteen (and still counting)!

Did you know that Nick Swisher hit twenty-or-more home runs during a single season, nine times during his Major League career, the eighth most instances by a switch hitter? Those with more are; Chili Davis (10), Lance Berkman (11), Carlos Beltran (12), Mark Teixeira (12), Chipper Jones (14), Mickey Mantle (14), and Eddie Murray (16).

On April 13, 2009, Nick Swisher started the game playing first base. The Tampa Bay Rays had a comfortable lead, 15-5 in the ninth inning, so Swisher took the mound, pitched a scoreless frame, and struck out Gabe Kapler. Do you know who the last New York Yankee was that recorded both a home run and strikeout (pitching) in the same game? [Answer]
