Joe Torre is one of the few Hall of Fame managers, entering Cooperstown in 2014 alongside Bobby Cox, and joining Walter Alston, Sparky Anderson, Leo Durocher, Ned Hanlon, Bucky Harris, Whitey Herzog, Miller Huggins, Tony La Russa, Tommy Lasorda, Al Lopez, Connie Mack, Joe McCarthy, John McGraw, Bill McKechnie, Wilbert Robinson, Frank Selee, Billy Southworth, Casey Stengel, Earl Weaver and Dick Williams.

Joe Torre was also one hell of a ballplayer and is the only Hall of Fame skipper to hit for the cycle (June 27, 1973), the only one with a batting title (.363 in 1971), and the only one to win a Most Valuable Player Award.

On June 7, 2007, Joe Torre won his 2,000th game as a manager - only the 10th in history - and became the first Major League manager to win 2,000 games and have 2,000 hits. During the postgame press conference Torre said, "Two thousand? Without the opportunity here, I wouldn't have been close. It's been a great ride. I've appreciated it. The players have been the best part of it for me. And they proved it again tonight." [Joe Torre Manager Data]
