"He (John Tudor) was also combative, curt, and bluntly honest; when he considered a question stupid, he said so. It is the age of 10-second sound bites and TV mini-cams and much of what the professional athlete must deal with really is trivial and repetitive, but the unwritten rule is that you play along, smile for the camera, babble banalities and go on. Not this guy." - Henderson, Joe. Author. The Man and the Image. Baseball Digest. August 1986.

Did you know that John Tudor spent five years pitching in St. Louis, finishing with a 2.52 ERA, and a 62-26 record, giving him a .705 winning percentage — the best in franchise history (750 IP)?
One of those seasons is quite notable... In 1985, Tudor struggled mightily, going 1-7, with a 3.74 ERA. A high school teammate was watching Tudor on TV, noticed a change in his delivery, called John, and an epic turnaround occurred. Tudor then won twenty-games, including his last eleven consecutive decisions. His ERA after the call, a minuscule 1.37, and he finished the year with ten shutouts, three shy of the franchise record set by Bob Gibson in 1968.
The St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame Museum was established in 2014, and includes the the franchise history, as well as an elite set of former players selected by a "Red Ribbon" panel who are members of the Cardinals Hall of Fame. In 2020, John Tudor, Tom Herr, and Bill White were awarded their honorary red jackets.
