On April 23, 2020, the San Diego Police Department sent out the tweet below, honoring the life of Dan Walters, who joined the police department in 1998. Dan had injured himself diving for a ball in a Spring Training game in 1996, ending his baseball career, but he chose to serve his community and became a police officer. Five years later, he was responding to a domestic violence call, exited his car, was shot by the suspect, then as he fled the scene, a motorist ran over Walters, who was paralyzed until the day he passed away.
