Dick Wantz had an excellent Spring Training in 1965, making the Angels' roster, and pitching on Opening Day on April 13, 1965. Wantz relieved Don Lee in the eighth inning, struck out the first batter (Max Alvis) he faced, then surrendered back-to-back doubles (one run scored), then an additional run scoring single, before settling back down to whiff Ralph Terry, strikeout #2, and eventually cause Dick Howser to weakly ground out to Jim Fregosi. Exactly thirty days later, Dick Wantz died.
