Randy Winn was born on Sunday, June 9, 1974, in Los Angeles, California. Winn was 23 years old when he broke into the big leagues on May 11, 1998, with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive Randy Winn baseball stats page.
"It (hitting for the cycle) hasn't sunk in yet. I've never done it before, even going back to T-ball, Little League, high school or college. So it is special. It's very tough to do, and I think after it sinks in, it'll hit me a little bit." - Winn, Randy. MLB Press Release. 15 August 2005.

Randy Winn Stats by Baseball Almanac |
The San Francisco Giants have had nine instances of a player homering from both sides of the plate in a game (Chili Davis 3x, Todd Benzinger, Kevin Bass, Ray Durham, Randy Winn 2x, and Pablo Sandoval). They've also had ten players hit for the cycle after they moved to San Francisco. Randy Winn was the first to accomplish both feats with San Francisco, and he did both in a venue (Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park) where he played only eleven career games.
On November 18, 1997, Major League Baseball conducted the Expansion Draft to establish the rosters for the 1998 Tampa Bay Devil Rays and 1998 Arizona Diamondbacks. The Rays selected the following outfielders Quinton McCracken (1st Round / 4th Overall), Bobby Abreu 1st Round / 6th Overall), Rich Butler (1st Round / 10th Overall), Bubba Trammell (1st Round 25th Overall), Kerry Robinson (2nd Round / 44th Overall), Carlos Mendoza (2nd Round / 52nd Overall), Kevin Sefcik (2nd Round / 54th Overall), Randy Winn (3rd Round / 58th Overall), Brooks Kieschnick (3rd Round / 64th Overall) and Luke Wilcox (3rd Round / 66th Overall).

On May 11, 1998, Randy Winn made his Major League Debut, pinch running for the designated hitter, Paul Sorrento When Randy stepped onto the field, he was wearing #2, the first time it was used by a Rays player in team history.
On October 3, 1999, Randy Winn hit an inside the park grand slam, off Jeff Juden, the first in franchise history for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The "ducks on the pond" who helped Winn make history that day in Tropicana Field were Jose Guillen, Terrell Lowery and David Lamb.
On July 13, 2002, Randy Winn hit a leadoff home run. In that same game, opposing leadoff hitter Ichiro Suzuki also hit a leadoff home run. This was the first time a Rays player, and a player from their opponents, each hit a leadoff home run in the same game.
On August 15, 2005, Randy Winn hit for the cycle and was the first player to complete a cycle (from the visiting team or home team) in the newly opened Great American Ball Park.
On September 14, 2005, Randy Winn had a Splash Hit (a home run by a Giants player that lands in McCovey Cove on the fly), the third switch-hitter (1st: Felipe Crespo. 2nd: Jose Cruz, Jr.) to reach the body of water without bouncing it off the arcade or portwalk.
Randy Winn was traded to the Seattle Mariners for Antonio Perez, a Minor League prospect at the time, on October 28, 2002. The day after the uneven trade, the Mariners sent their manager, Lou Piniella, to the Devil Rays to be their manager — one of the few instances in baseball history where a player was part of a trade that included a baseball manager.
