Carlos Zambrano was born on Monday, June 1, 1981, in Puerto Cabello, Carabobo, Venezuela. Zambrano was 20 years old when he broke into the big leagues on August 20, 2001, with the Chicago Cubs. His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive Carlos Zambrano baseball stats page.
"Carlos (Zambrano) can't accept and move on quickly from people getting hits off him. That's good, in a way. But what's going to make him great in the coming years — and hopefully he'll learn this — is that he can still win those 6-4 ballgames. He doesn't have to shut out everyone every time. I think he feels a great sense of obligation to us as a team because we lean on him. Even though we have all the trust in the world in our two through five starters, he's the one guy, when he walks on the mound, we have to have that game." - DeRosa, Mark. Cubs getting Zambrano's best at right time. Crasnick, Jerry. ESPN Staff Writer. 14 September 2007.

Carlos Zambrano Stats by Baseball Almanac |
Carlos Alberto Zambrano was a Major League Baseball player who pitched for the Chicago Cubs (2001-2011) and Miami Marlins (2012). Big Z, his nickname, was as well-known for his skill with the bat, as he was with the ball, and he had the best batting average amongst National League pitchers in 2006, 2008, and 2009, earning him three Silver Slugger Awards, including the first one ever won by a Cubs twirler!
When Carlos Zambrano hit six home runs in 2006, he tied the record for most home runs in a single season by a Cubs pitcher, set originally by Fergie Jenkins. That same year, Big Z did not hit any doubles or triples, tying the Major League Baseball record for most home runs in a single season without any other type of extra base hit! Those who preceded him were Babe Ruth (1935), Carl Sawatski (1963), Earl Wilson (1965), Duke Sims (1965), Larry Hisle (1980), and Luis Medina (1988).
Carlos Zambrano not only set hitting records in 2006, he also won 16 games, the most in the National League that season, a five-way tie (Top 25). El Toro became the first pitcher from Venezuela to lead the National League in wins! [Year by Year Leaders for Wins]

Did you know that Carlos Zambrano was the first pitcher in Major League Baseball history to throw a no-hitter in a neutral park? The Cubs versus Houston Astros game, on September 14, 2008, was relocated from Houston, Texas, to Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, due to Hurricane Ike, a category 4 storm that struck Haiti, Cuba, and Texas (killing nearly 200 people).
Carlos Zambrano No Hitter | September 14, 2008 | MLB Advanced Media, LP
Did you know that Carlos Zambrano hit twenty-three home runs in Chicago, the most ever by a Cubs pitcher? Too easy? Did you know that when he took the mound on April 5, 2010, it was his sixth consecutive Opening Day starting assignment in Chicago, which is also the most by a Cubs pitcher?
Carlos Zambrano was incredibly expressive when he pitched. Over the course of his career, Big Z was ejected from five games (July 19, 2004, April 4, 2005, April 26, 2005, May 27, 2009, August 12, 2011), suspended by the Cubs multiple times, suspended by Major League Baseball, and forced to take anger management classes.
