"Tides speedster Ed Stroud. During the 1964 Carolina League season there was no one better than Tidewater outfielder Ed Stroud. Nicknamed 'The Creeper' for his deceptive move off first base, Stroud was selected MVP of the league while leading a number of offensive categories including runs scored (108), hits (167), and stolen bases (72). The following season he captured the league batting title, hitting .341 from the plate. For his accomplishments he was appointed to the Carolina League All-Star team in 1964 and 1965." - By Clay Shampoe, Thomas R.
