The Game is Over by Jim Nuzzo

When Jim Nuzzo penned "The Game is Over" he put down words that millions of fans thought about and STILL think about. Words that brought back memories of "The Strike" in 1994 which forever changed the face of the game.

The title track on this moving album, which is also called "The Game is Over", is featured here on Baseball Almanac because we believe it should be widely supported, heard by the fans, and considered a modern classic.

"Baseball games are won and lost because of errors - and this will go down as the biggest 'E' of all. 1994 - the season that struck itself out." - Former Commissioner Peter Ueberroth
The Game is Over

by Jim Nuzzo (1998)

The Game is Over

The game is over before it's begun
The crowds, they're not coming
There will be no more fun
Greed and compensation
Are now number one
No team wins a title
There will be no MVP
This sport is drowning
In a sea of green you see
What happened to honor between men
What makes them think
It can ever be the same again

The game is over… it's come undone
All the king's horses and all the king's men
Can't put it back together again
The game is over…. Ain't it a sin
Everybody loses…nobody wins

Owners in your ivory towers
All you million dollar babies
Tell me how much is enough
One hundred billion maybe
I don't really care
Who's wrong or right
Ya see my kid and I
We just want to see a game tonight

The game is over…it's come undone
All the king's horses and all the king's men
Can't put it back together again
The game is over…. Ain't it a sin
Everybody loses…nobody wins

Let's go watch the children
Recall the innocent
They play the game for what it is
Not for how much that is spent
You'll hear the cheers the laughter
Feel the pride and the pain
And the only cancellation
Will be on account of rain

The game is over…it's come undone
All the king's horses and all the king's men
Can't put it back together again
The game is over….ain't it a sin
Everybody loses…nobody wins
The game is over
