1-Hit Games Records

Baseball Almanac is pleased to present a comprehensive record book full of baseball milestones for one-hit games (1-hitters) — including career marks, single season plateaus and game related records.

"Talk about a pair of one-hit wonders. On May 24, Cubs pitcher Jon Lieber faced the minimum twenty-seven batters in throwing a one-hitter in a 3-0 victory against Cincinnati. Less than twenty-four hours later, Kerry Wood fired a one-hitter against Milwaukee in a 1-0 victory. 'Two amazing days,' Cubs manager Don Baylor said, 'And two different ways how to pitch.'" - USA Today (Wire, 05/29/2001)

The American League record for most 1-hit games during a single season by a team is held by the 1964 Baltimore Orioles who had five. The National League record for most 1-hit games during a single season by a team is held by the following teams: 1906 Chicago Cubs, 1907 Philadelphia Phillies, 1909 Chicago Cubs, 1911 Philadelphia Phillies, 1915 Philadelphia Phillies, 1979 Philadelphia Phillies and 1999 Cincinnati Reds; each team had four.

The 1968 season is often referred to as the "year of the pitcher" and there was an all-time league leading fifteen 1-hitters thrown in the National League that year. The next closest seasons were both in the American League, both had thirteen and they took place in 1979 and 1988.
