Comiskey Park Historical Analysis
Charles Comiskey built his new Baseball Palace of the World at the corner of 35th Street and Shields Avenue. Comiskey Park was designed by architect Zachary Taylor Davis with input from Charles Comiskey and National Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Ed Walsh.

"He (Charles Comiskey) taught the first baseman how to play the position. He furnished the rest of the infielders with new strategy. He gave you the impression, wherever you happened to meet him, that he was always thinking. There was hardly a game he didn't spring something new." - John McGraw |

Comiskey Park

|
Did you know that from 1969 through 1975, the infield was covered with a type of Astroturf called Sox Sod while the outfield was a natural bluegrass?
Comiskey Park had the first exploding scoreboard in Major League history (1960) and foul lines that were actually old water hoses painted white.
The following sluggers have each hit a home run into the centerfield bleachers at Comiskey Park: Jimmie Foxx on May 18, 1934; Hank Greenberg on May 27, 1938; Alex Johnson on September 9, 1970, Dick Allen on August 23, 1972, Richie Zisk on May 22, 1977, Tony Armas on April 28, 1984 and George Bell on August 23, 1985.
