"A year of frustration became a year of transition for the (2007 San Francisco) Giants. San Francisco fell into last place for good on June 6, only 58 games into the season. Then came the changes, albeit gradually. In July, owner Peter Magowan and general manager Brian Sabean acknowledged that the organization must abandon its veterans-only approach and begin relying more on younger players. Manager Bruce Bochy began mixing some of the team's rookies and near-rookies into the lineup in August." - Sportswriter Chris Haft on MLB.com (10/01/2007) |
