Tony Lazzeri Record Setting Night

On May 24, 1936, Tony Lazzeri became the first player in Major League history to connect for two grand slams during the same game. What follows below is the entire Sporting News article which appeared after this fabulous slugging feat.

"You (Tony Lazzeri) have shown that you are our most valuable player. When you were out of the game we could not win. Miller Huggins put you on second when we were playing those five games with the Athletics and your playing and the inspiration you gave us made us win all but one of the series. We would be in second place today if it were not for you." - Mark Koenig in 1929 (National Baseball Hall of Fame Website)
