2014 Major League Baseball All-Star Game

The 2014 Major League Baseball All-Star Game was the 85th edition of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, held at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the home of the Minnesota Twins.

This was the third All-Star Game played in the Twin Cities; Metropolitan Stadium hosted the Midsummer Classic in 1965, while the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome hosted the game in 1985.

"You say goodbye, I say hello" was the unofficial media theme for this All-Star Game which truly did feature Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who was playing in his final Midsummer Classic, taking center stage alongside Angels outfielder Mike Trout, who was a fan of "The Captain" growing up, and playing in "only" his third All-Star Game.

Neither All-Star disappointed, Jeter had two hits, including a stand-up double, and scored a run on a triple from, you guessed it, Angels outfielder Mike Trout. Trout also had two hits, a run-scoring double to go along with his run-scoring triple.

The American League took an early 3-run lead in the first inning on that Derek Jeter double, the Mike Trout triple, followed up by a Miguel Cabrera home run.

The National League kept it interesting, scoring 2-runs in the second inning using three consecutive hits - Aramis Ramirez, Chase Utley, Jonathan Lucroy - all against Jon Lester. Lucroy wasn't finished either, he tied the game at 3-each in the fourth inning with another run-scoring double.

The American League took back the lead in the fifth inning on a Trout run-scoring double combined with a Jose Altuve sacrifice fly, putting them ahead 5-3, both bullpens making sure no additional runs were scored.

"It is an honor for the Minnesota Twins to be selected to host the 2014 All-Star Game at Target Field. The excitement of having the Midsummer Classic will permeate the Twin Cities and be a great showcase for our region and for our wonderful community asset, Target Field. My father and Commissioner Selig were very close, so we are thrilled to have the Commissioner at Target Field to announce an All-Star Game coming to the Twin Cities." - Minnesota Twins Owner / CEO Jim Pohlad (Press Release, 08/29/2012, 'Minnesota Twins awarded the 2014 All-Star Game', Source)
