The Tiger of the Year has been awarded annually since 1965. Receipients are determined through a vote by members of the Detroit Chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Every Tiger of the Year Award winner is listed below, in chronological order. Research by Baseball Almanac.
"Anybody can hit in this lineup (the 2007 Detroit Tigers). We don't strike out that much, which is pretty good. We hit the ball everywhere. We're going to hit for average, but we have guys that can hit a long way." - Magglio Ordonez
When Cecil Fielder won Tiger of the Year three consecutive times (1990-1992) he became only the second former Tiger to win at least three times, joining Alan Trammell (1980, 1987-1988). In 2013, Miguel Cabrera started a new and exclusive four-time Tiger of the Year Award winner's "club".
When Magglio Ordonez won Tiger of the Year he became only the second Tigers batting champion to receive the award — review the Tigers page for a complete list of batting champions, ERA champions, award winners and more Tiger history.
