Did you know that the Tampa Bay Devil Rays finished fifty-one games behind the leader in 1998, yet still drew one of the largest attendance figures in baseball?
During the 1998 season, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays had their largest attendance when 2,506,023 fans attended home games at Tropicana Field.
The Tampa Bay Devil Rays were officially renamed prior to the 2008 season, removing "Devil" from their team name and changing their colors to green and white. The new Rays-only name refers to a ray of sunshine, since the franchise is located in Tampa, Florida – the Sunshine State.
