Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"My baseball life was wild. I have a trove of stories to tell and people I’ve met. From my first trip away for ball as a 15 year old, I knew I wanted to travel and play. I got to do that for a lot longer than many thought I would." - Barnette, Tony. 10 questions with former Rangers and Cubs pitcher Tony Barnette. Treuden, Eric. Tony Barnette took the mound fifty-three times during his first season in the majors. Only four former right-handed pitchers had fifty-or-more appearances with the Rangers before Barnette; Keone Kela (68 games in 2015), Jeff Zimmerman (65 games in 1999), Dale Mohorcic (58 games in 1986), and Casey Cox (66 games in 1966). From that group, Barnette's 2.09 ERA was the lowest.

Did you know that Tony Barnette pitched from the stretch position during all 127 of his career relief appearances? Even more unusual, when he came to the set position, his hands were near his right hip, rather than the middle of his torso, or near his belt.
