His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive Ed Bauta baseball stats page.
"I liked school, but I had to stop going because I needed to work on the farm, cutting sugar cane. I think that was around the fifth grade. When I had time, I played baseball, in games that were in my hometown. I was really good and got an opportunity to pitch in a big game over in the city of Camagüey. I had to borrow a uniform and shoes, but it didn't bother me at all, and I had fourteen strikeouts that day. A couple weeks later, I was asked to sign a contract to play professionally and they gave me a $500 bonus. What a great day that was." - Bauta, Ed. Baseball Almanac Phone Interview. 6 January 2004.

Ed Bauta Stats by Baseball Almanac |
Eduardo Bauta was a Major League Baseball player with the St. Louis Cardinals (1960-1963) and New York Mets (1963-1964). When Ed, his nickname, made his big league debut on July 6, 1960, he became the first player from the city of Florida — in the Camagüey Province of Cuba — to play in the majors!
The rookie card for Ed Bauta is a 1962 Topps (#344), pictured at the top of the page, of which Ed signed for us in 2004, during an interview. The following year, Topps included him on the 1963 Topps (#336), but the photo they used appears to be quite similar to the one they used a year earlier!

Did you know that when Ed Bauta took the field on September 18, 1963, it was the last regular season baseball game ever played in the Polo Grounds? Too easy? When Ed Bauta took the field on April 17, 1964, he was not able to hold a 3-2 lead, blew the save, and became the first losing pitcher in Shea Stadium history!
