Albert Belle was born on Thursday, August 25, 1966, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Belle was 22 years old when he broke into the big leagues on July 15, 1989, with the Cleveland Indians. His biographical data, year-by-year hitting stats, fielding stats, pitching stats (where applicable), career totals, uniform numbers, salary data and miscellaneous items-of-interest are presented by Baseball Almanac on this comprehensive Albert Belle baseball stats page.
"I really don't get involved in perceptions. We're all different, and that's what makes it interesting. Being judged on the things beyond what you do as a baseball player-sometimes I don't think that's necessarily right. Maybe you don't have the full story. When I come out here, I look at Albert (Belle) as a teammate, I look at him as a baseball player. I look at how he comes to bat and how he approaches his job. He's someone you really appreciate when he's on your team. He's a fifty homer guy, a one-hundred forty RBI guy. He wants to play everyday. Who wouldn't want that? I have a lot of respect for him. Playing against him and watching how he goes about his job. I'm happy I'm his teammate." - Ripken, Cal (Jr.) Sports Illustrated. 8 March 1999. [Albert Belle Quotes]

Albert Jojuan Belle was a Major League Baseball player with the Cleveland Indians (1989-1996), Chicago White Sox (1997-1998), and Baltimore Orioles (1999-2000). When Albert made his big league debut on July 15, 1989, he became the first Huntington High School graduate to play in the majors!
Did you know that Albert Belle was named one of the 100 Greatest Cleveland Indians Players ever? As part of the club’s 100th Anniversary Celebration in 2001, a panel of veteran baseball writers, historians and executives selected a roster of the Top 100 Greatest Indians and Belle was named one of the twenty-three outfielders. If the Indians, or Major League Baseball, ever ranked intense players, Belle would probably be Top 100 there too (see image below).

Albert Belle | Sports Illustrated | May 6, 1996
Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx and Lou Gehrig were the first players in baseball history to have eight consecutive seasons of 30 home runs and 100 RBI, Albert Belle was the fourth. Join Baseball Almanac as we take a look at some additional numbers of interest:
3 - Albert Belle was an RBI machine, one of only six players with nine consecutive 100-RBI seasons, and on three occasions, Belle was the American League RBI Champion (1993, 1995, 1996). Belle was also the American League total bases leader on three occasions (1994, 1995, 1998) and had three 40-home run seasons (1995, 1996, 1998).
4 - Albert Belle was ranked fourth, by ESPN Page 2, in an article they did called Biggest cheaters in baseball. The infamous incident as described by the staff writers:
On July 15, 1994, Belle's bat was confiscated by umpire Dave Phillips after White Sox manager Gene Lamont voiced his suspicion that the bat was corked. The Indians knew it was corked, and set out to replace the bat, which Phillips had put in his locker. During the game, Indians pitcher Jason Grimsley wriggled through a crawl space above the ceiling above the umpires' locker room, dropped through an escape hatch, and replaced the corked model with a conventional one. "My heart was going 1,000 miles a second," said Grimsley. "I just rolled the dice, a crapshoot."
But the caper was easily found out — the faux Belle model Grimsley had put in Phillips locker had Paul Sorrento's name on it. Belle was suspended for seven games. In his autobiography, released just a few weeks ago, former Belle teammate Omar Vizquel wrote about the "Batgate" incident: "I can be naive at times, but I'm not stupid. Certainly not stupid enough to steal Albert's corked bat and replace it with one that looked completely different — one that was autographed by Paul Sorrento. That wasn't even a nice try. The problem, of course, was that all of Albert's bats were corked."

Albert Belle Game Used Bat | Louisville Slugger | Model B343
5 - Albert Belle won five Silver Slugger Awards in the outfield — the most by any Cleveland Indians slugger. He also appeared in five consecutive All-Star Games (1993 through 1997).
103 - Albert Belle had 103 extra base hits in 1995, tying the Major League mark for most by a right-handed hitter set by Hank Greenberg in 1937 (since tied by Sammy Sosa in 2001).
152 - Albert Belle only played two years for the Chicago White Sox, but his 152 RBIs in 1998 broke the franchise record set by Zeke Bonura in 1936 (138 RBIs) and the team RBI record still belongs to Albert to this date.
381 - Albert Belle finished his big league career with 381 home runs in just twelve short years. In his final game, in his last at bat, Belle went deep joining the Home Run In Final American League At-Bat "club" - a fitting ending to the slugger's short career.
10,000,000 - Albert Belle was awarded a five year, $55,000,000 million dollar contract in 1996, the first player to break the 10-million-dollar per year plateau in Major League Baseball.
On September 30, 1995, Albert Belle hit his 50th home run of the season, he already had 52 doubles, and when he circled the bases and touched home plate he became the first (and only player in history to date) with at least 50 home runs and 50 doubles in the same season.
