Baseball Almanac Top Quote

"He's way nastier than I thought he would be (Jeff Cirillo / Pitching Debut). I was shocked when I got up there. He's got a knuckleball, a slider, he was throwing some changeups. Those pitches make 84, 83 [mph fastballs] look pretty hard. I heard he was a better pitcher in college than he was a hitter." - Hall, Bill. Post Game Press Conference. 20 August 2007. Chase Field.

Jeffrey Howard Cirillo was a Major League Baseball player with the Milwaukee Brewers (1994-1999), Colorado Rockies (2000-2001), Seattle Mariners (2002-2003), San Diego Padres (2004), Milwaukee Brewers (2005-2006), Minnesota Twins (2007), and Arizona Diamondbacks (2007). When Jeff, his nickname, hit .325 in 1996, it was the highest batting average by a Brew Crew player during the second full season, surpassing the mark of .322 held by what hall of famer? [Answer]

Did you know that Jeff Cirillo set a National League single-season record in 2001, appearing in eighty-five consecutive errorless games at third base? Did you know it was one shy of the Major League record? Do you know who set that mark? [Answer]

Did you know that Jeff Cirillo (53 doubles in 2000) and Todd Helton (59 doubles in 2000) are the first two National League players to each hit 50-or-more doubles on the same team (2000 Colorado Rockies) during the same season (2000)?

Did you know that Jeff Cirillo led both leagues in games played at third base (1996, 2000), recorded the most putouts by a third baseman in both leagues as well (1997, 1999), recorded the most assists by a third baseman in both leagues (1997, 1998, 2000), turned the most double plays by a third baseman in both leagues (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000), and even had the best fielding percentage by a third baseman in both leagues (2001, 2002), but never once in either league won a Gold Gloves at Third Base?

Jeff Cirillo once held one of baseball's most unwanted records — he played in 1,617 regular season games, but never once in a postseason game. When the 2007 Arizona Diamondbacks made the playoffs, the title was passed to Damion Easley of the New York Mets who finished the 2008 season having played 1,706 straight games without a playoff appearance.
