Zachary Allen Collins is an active Major League Baseball player with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2022-Today), who played previously with the Chicago White Sox (2019-2021) and Toronto Blue Jays (2022). Zack, his nickname, made his major league debut, on June 19, 2019, versus the Chicago Cubs and walked as a pinch hitter for pitcher Jose Ruiz in the top of the 9th inning.
On June 21, 2019, Zack was the designated hitter in a game against the Texas Rangers at Arlington. In the top of the second inning, with two runners on base and two outs, Collins hit a home run in his first official at-bat, against Ariel Jurado.
Zack Collins was the fourth Pale Hose player to hit a home run in his first at-bat, joining Carlos Lee, Miguel Olivo, and Josh Fields.
During the post game interview Zack Collins described the moment saying, "I was pumped. Then I was just in shock. I didn't know whether it was a dream. I was running around the bases, it was crazy. I knew it was gone. Running around the bases, it kind of seemed like a blur to me."
In 2016, Zack Collins hit 363 with 16 home runs, 59 RBIs and a .668 slugging percentage while catching at the University of Miami, earning him the prestigious Johnny Bench Award, an honor created in 2000 and given to the top college catcher!
