Joseph Edward Cronin was a Major League Baseball player for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1926-1927), Washington Senators (1928-1934), and Boston Red Sox (1935-1945). Joe was a player-manager for thirteen seasons, a general manager, the President of the American League for fourteen years, and in 1956, Cronin was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame alongside Hank Greenberg.

Did you know that the Joe Cronin obituary in The New York Times (Robert Thomas, Jr., JOE CRONIN, AN EX-EXECUTIVE AND STAR PLAYER IN BASEBALL, 1984) included this incredible quote, "Cronin was known as one of the great clutch-hitters of his time. 'With a man on third and one out,' the famed manager Connie Mack once said, 'I'd rather have Cronin hitting for me than anybody I've ever seen, and that includes (Ty) Cobb, (Al) Simmons and the rest of them.'"?
Did you know that Joe Cronin hit for the cycle on September 2, 1929, in a Washington Senators uniform, then again on August 2, 1940, in a Boston Red Sox uniform, and became the first player to hit a cycle for two different American League teams? [Cycle Records]
Did you know that Joe Cronin set — and still holds — the American League record for most pinch hit home runs in a season (5 in 1943)? Did you know that same year he also drove in 25 runs while pinch hitting, another entry in the Pinch Hitting Record book?
Did you know that Joe Cronin hit one of those pinch hit home runs in Game 1 of a doubleheader on June 17, 1943, then hit another pinch hit home run in Game 2, becoming the first player in Major League history to hit a pinch hit homer in both ends of a doubleheader? Do you know who matched that feat in 1973? [Answer]

Did you know that Joe Cronin was a seven-time All-Star - twice for the Washington Senators (1933, 1934) and five times for the Boston Red Sox (1935, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1941) - who became, in 1935, the first American League player to appear at a Midsummer Classic with two different teams (Senators / Red Sox)?
Did you know that Joe Cronin had 203 hits in 1930, the first and only Washington Senators (1901-1960) right-handed hitter with a 200-hit season? After the franchise relocated in 1961, becoming the modern day Minnesota Twins, the team record was broken by Cesar Tovar (204 hits in 1971), then Kirby Puckett (223 hits in 1986 / 234 hits in 1988).
