James Houston Davenport was a Major League Baseball player with the San Francisco Giants (1958-1970). When Jim, his nickname, first stepped onto the field / making his Major League debut on April 15, 1958, in Seals Stadium, it was the first time a player in a San Francisco Giants uniform ever wore #12 in a regular season game!

In the bottom of the first inning, leading off the historic west coast game, Jim Davenport was struck out by Don Drysdalethe first at-bat by a SAN FRANCISCO Giant! The Giants played in the majors the year before, but were the New York Giants) at that time.

Did you know that as a high school senior, Jim Davenport was recruited to be the quarterback at Alabama? The University had a rule against signing married athletes so Bi Jim attended Mississippi Southern and led the Golden Eagles to two upset victories against the Crimson Tide.
